Mid June 2024 we began a series of community participatory workshops with community members living in and around Blackpool.
The project ‘A Question of Art’ is funded by BCH Tenants Project grant.
Young people do amazing creative work when the chance arises to make time to relax, use colour and new techniques for making art works on canvas.

REVOE COMMUNITY MOSAIC OUTSIDE MARY SMITH COMMUNITY HUB

We received word today that the mosaic is finally in situ.
https://lastlegsart.com/category/mosaic/
The art work was originally designed, then made to fit within a window space of the now demolished George Hotel, once situated on Central Drive next to the Revoe community center. The mosaic will now take pride of place outside the Mary Smith House, Revoe-lution Community building. The mosaic depicts iconic local landmark buildings including the George Hotel.

The art work was designed by Mr Dee using the iconic local buildings of Blackpool to inform the work, as discussed and designed with Revoe residents, who worked on the mosaic over a number of years using recycled tiles, donated by Al Murad Tiles.
We would like to thank Pippa Martin who gave us the start up funding, the ‘Hand Grown Un’s’ art group who met at the Revoe Community Center over a period of months and worked together to create the first part of this mosaic’s story, the Mary Smith Art group, Jackie, Barbara Clarke, Anita and Peter, Angie Buss, Suzanne Forbes, Harry, Penny Corney, Brenda Giles, Sue and Sophia and all at Memory Lane Cafe, particularly Carol and Jan, and Kas at Al Murad for the tiles. This mosaic is dedicated to all the people and places in Revoe that are culturally significant to the history of Blackpool.

We are also exited to be working again in the community in Blackpool, thanks to Blackpool Coastal Housing’s Tenant Project Fund, grant for our new Arts Health project ‘A Question of Art’. The project will involve working with staff and tenants of BCH: workshops begin in March 2024.
