Working with Revoe-lution youth group on 07/10/2023 to create a site specific public graffiti triptych art wall using spray paint

The group should be rightly proud, happy and pleased with the resulting art work they created from start to finish, that reflects their pride in the area that they live. As a group they wanted to show their appreciation for Revoe and the people living in the area.

Boz Phillips and Lee Fitzgerald (Mr Dee) would like to thank all the young people involved for making the entire day a fantastic experience and for creating such a super, large scale, site specific, public triptych art work.

‘The Difference’

Copper poem plaques: art works created by Mr Dee as part of the Art Trail in St Annes. Thanks to Melanie and Jane at the Attik, St Annes for supporting us and St. Anne’s on The Sea Town Council for funding the work.

We have set a competition for people to find all 10 plaques situated throughout St Annes.

First Prize went to Dee Webb and Richard Hone worthy 1st winners of an original work of art. Having completed the arts trail hunt ‘The Difference’ by Boz Phillips andMisterDee ToYou. Proving that it can be done! There is still time…the Arts trail hunt will continue during the festival of the seaside with 4 pieces of art still to be won. Pop in to Urban Arts Studio, 11-12 Back St. Annes Road West, FY8 1RD Lytham St Annes, to pick up the 10 clues and come back to us to collect your prize. It’s a treasure hunt with a different pot of gold.

Horizon Tram Project August

During August we will be working with Horizon Blackpool to create art works on a static Blackpool Tram, situated near the Sandcastle Blackpool. We are currently working with two groups on their designs and ideas.

Fun Days Screen printing workshops

At the end of last year we worked with Hand Made Un’s Art Club participants and the local community to create these posters for the front of the King Edward Picture House on Central Drive. Designs and ideas came from the participants. The posters went up in January.

Looking forward to creating two new posters for the King Edward soon: working with our Art Club members @ Hand Made ‘Un’s Art Club Ibbison Court Community Center.

Minty Fresh

Although we are a very small organisation we like to look at the bigger picture.

We try to reach as many community members, local artists and organisations as we can: building on each project to create a network of creative thinking and making throughout the Fylde Coast.

We are in the process of identifying funding and grants to carry out creative projects and activities in St Annes this year. We are also currently seeking individuals, groups and organisations who would benefit from working in partnership with us in St Annes.

We were at the Revoe-lution AGM on Saturday 08/04/2017 doing a workshop and showing photos and information from previous workshops, to the local community. The workshops funded by the Revoe-Lution ‘Community Chest’ grant enabled us to work in partnership with the youth outreach team this February.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

‘Art Buddies’ – creative community engagement January – ongoing 2017

In 2016 we received funding from BCH (Blackpool Coastal Housing) that we are utalising in 2017 to reach people in the community who may feel isolated or who miss out on opportunities for creative engagement due to circumstances beyond their control. ‘Art Buddies’ began this January in the Revoe area of Blackpool and is continuing successfully. Reaching individuals to engage in creative activities. Two of our ‘Art Buddies’ Joanne and Stephen are now coming along to the ‘Hand Made Un’s’ art club.

Just in time for the Christmas holidays we installed the ‘Fantasy Plant Shop’.

On Monday 23rd of December Last Legs Community Arts Organisation set up a ‘pop up’ art installation in a Central Drive Shop at Bethesda Square (previously Mickeys Carpets) in Blackpool the same shop where ‘Dr Evoes Pet Shop’ was previously housed as part of the Culture Shops initiative in 2013 and has been created by the same artists Boz Phillips and Lee Fitzgerald.

All the art on display has been the work of the local community including pupils at Revoe Learning Academy. Boz Phillips and Lee Fitzgerald set up workshops with the participants to support intergenerational community arts activities for the project.

‘Last Legs’ – Boz Phillips and Lee Fitzgerald approached LeftCoast earlier this year for funding to support the local community with publicising their community garden situated at the back of Lady Smith House, Ibbison Court.

The community have worked hard with GroundWork and the Council to set up the garden and are still seeking volunteers to get involved.

The installation will remain in the shop for one month from 23rd December – January

‘We have worked with the community of Central Drive and Revoe to create a ‘Fantasy Plant Shop’ art installation – Hand Grown Un’s.

After creating ‘Dr Evoes Pet Shop’ last year we received such positive feedback and requests to produce another art installation we decided to seek funding from LeftCoast to carry out this project. The children who designed the fantasy pets/ animals for the ‘fantasy pet shop’ last year really wanted to get involved making the work but we did not have enough funding or time to act on their request. This time thanks to funding from LeftCoast as part of the ‘Growing People – programme,designed to get local communities thinking differently about their green spaces’, we were able to involve school pupils, young people attending the Monday Club at Ibbison Community Center and more of the older community in making the art works. All the art works created for the shop were made using recycled materials.

We worked directly with at least 500 participants on the project with the aim of supporting the community gardeners and give their hard work a higher profile.

By installing more art in empty shop windows on Central Drive people can see there is a really strong sense of community in the area. People there are working very hard to improve the area and need positive creative ideas from everyone to reinforce this.

The community profile recently carried out in the area showed that local people really do want more opportunities for art and creativity there. We are currently in the early stages of setting up art workshops for older people in the area next year.

Working in the area is always a pleasure because the community are so enthusiastic and positive: we will continue to support them by creating opportunities for further arts activities’.

On Friday afternoon we worked with year 4.

Each pupil picked out an unusually named plant or flower from the ‘mystery bag’ and then drew a design of how they thought the plant might look. We invited the young people to research the origins of the plants and to look up how the plant really looked, after they had created these amazing fantasy plants using recycled materials.
