Up-cycling and Art at Shabby2chic CIC

Working again with one of our favorite partner organisations Shabby2chic CIC and wonderful owner Sandra Johnson, a group of young people and YOT.

Over the next six weeks we will be working with the group to design items that are up-cycled, using printmaking, graffiti and shabby chic techniques.

Balloon signs at Club2Go workshop Grange Park Blackpool

We love working with Club2Go. Fantastic and dedicated people who offer activities to young people in areas where there is little or no access to arts and sports during the holidays.

The young participants love the Posca pens that were kindly donated to us by POSCA earlier this year

Subway cars  for people to add their own graffiti to

The build when we arrived with all the pieces

As  part of the live paint event Mr Dee with the help of our photographer Lee Hodgkiss and our new organisation member David Jennings we created and built 2 small subway cars on wheels that later joined the Tram Sunday parade.

Boz Phillips set up a workshop for  or should I say ‘put out paint all day’ for enthusiastic children , parents and members of the public to paint the subway cars with their graffiti.

The subway cars were a big hit thanks to Mr Dees’ ideas and Dave and Lees help.

Everyone loved the opportunity to decorate the cars from 12 noon until 3.30  when the parade commenced.

See for yourself the participants work below.

We work with Shabby2Chic because they support people in our community to achieve their aims of finding skills and employment. Through Sandra’s dedication to recycling and supporting the people most in need in the community to make Blackpool a better place to live and work.

We recently worked with Sandra on workshops with young people who produced the following ‘Shabby chic’ items. We could not post until now as one item was made for a wedding present.

Recycled cardboard armor with YMCA group

In 2013 we were asked to facilitate two short workshops with young people engaged in National Citizens Service activities with the YMCA  in the fantastic setting of Rossall School Fleetwood, during the summer break.

We created cardboard knights armor for the participants to add their own team designs to.

Art work on recycled furniture with young people

In 2013 Mr Dee was asked to work with Shabby2Chic as we have a great working partnership with this fantastic company

http://sandrajohnson.vpweb.co.uk/About-Us.html

Mr Dee worked with a young person to develop  his art work on to a piece of recycled furniture which sold for £60

The young person who painted this has a real talent for illustration.

We suggested he develop one particular art work for adding to a

t-shirt.

Not only did the young man in  pass his award: gaining confidence and self esteem with regards his skills. He was able to see the potential to take his work forward and develop a  business selling his art work in the future.
